North of Morne-à-l’Eau, Grande-Terre becomes a plateau of sugar cane and pasture, almost flat, that stops abruptly at the Atlantic. This is the least visited part of the island, crossed by small straight roads between the fields, far from the traffic of the south.

This schedule is a starting point. Stops and times are confirmed with you when you book.

The day, hour by hour

  1. 8.30 am

    Pick-up at your accommodation

Time shown for a start from Le Gosier or Pointe-à-Pitre.

  2. 9 am

    Cimetière de Morne-à-l’Eau

    Morne-à-l’Eau

Hundreds of black-and-white tiled tombs stepped up the hillside at the entrance to the town. This is a place of remembrance: look from the paths, discreetly.

Time on site : 20 min
  3. 9.50 am

    Plage du Souffleur

    Port-Louis

Calm, shallow water on the Caribbean side, just outside the village of Port-Louis. First swim of the day.

    Time on site : 1 h 15
  4. 11.35 am

    Pointe de la Grande Vigie

    Anse-Bertrand

The northernmost point of Guadeloupe. A short path circles the headland above tall limestone cliffs. On a clear day you can make out La Désirade, Antigua and Montserrat. Hold children by the hand: the edge is not fenced everywhere.

Time on site : 40 min
  5. 12.30 pm

    Porte d’Enfer

    Anse-Bertrand

A narrow inlet between two cliffs forming a sheltered lagoon with a small beach. Lunch on your own: picnic, or food stalls on site depending on the day.

    Time on site : 1 h 45
  6. 2.15 pm

    Return via Anse-Bertrand and Petit-Canal

    Arrival around 3.45 pm.

Driving time for the whole loop: 2 h 15 to 3 h, depending on traffic.
